not exactly about writing or reading or wordistry, but I need to mention how hard it has been to find a program I first saw a few years ago.
here’s the break down on what I’m looking for:
its an online application that artists use to draw and record animations/movies of their drawings. allowed for collaboration between multiple users. allowed for people to watch.. had many brushes/layers/ abilities of a good desktop drawing program.
Don’t know why there isnt a bigger interest in this, online collaboration seems to be one of the great strengths of the web, i.e. ccmixter for music collaboration.
Update: found a lot of this stuff to research more:
OekakiBBS and other Oekaki apps referenced in the wikipedia page on Oekaki
LasCaux Sketch
Queeky.com using sketchr app
Giffy.com for more technical online work….
oh and the Jan/Feb issue of Tape op had an 2 great interviews, one with John Buckman on CC and Magnatune while mentioning Jamendo, and cc Mixter. Also the Sylvia Massy interview who operates a recording studio in Weed called RadioStar Studios. great read on everything that isolation of a sort can provide.
The dumb husbands commercial spot:
“I insert a dumb husband into a piece of old plastic and it becomes a new sparkly tool again.”
At the gateway, a spider would wrap you up and send you in to be evaluated by a larval stage guard with a vicious set of jaws. I managed to wiggle out of the wrap and escape before the guard came, but as I was leaving I saw my friend J______ getting wrapped and sent inside. I followed him back in to save him:
“J______, we have to get you out of here, they are gonna want to eat you for sure!”
Not a response, only a look of terror across his face. He wasn’t dumb, this J_____, he chose his words carefully, for a varmit.
* * * * (later)
Those things are called pockets . Humans have them too, like J_____, but they don’t keep babies in ‘em. They keeps things in there that could be used later, and they carry them around that way.
” I wanant pocketses” moaned the scrug grub. I imagined outfitting him in a big caftan, or a moomoo, something strapless that could intricately hold to his bulbous physoidology
” It doesn’t matter — you need hands to use the pockets, Scrug.. You need to grab things and put them in there”
” I grab foods with my mouth, why cant I use my mouth to keep food in my pockets” Ugh. The sight of a grub carrying carrion around in a bodysuit was too much. He was right though. He could use his mouth and uses his scrap of cloth turned into a mumu, and be more useful to us that way.
“maybe something in lyrcra or spandex…”
I wondered how we could get to L_______
I’ve been searching for word.com for along time. It was regular pre-millennial reading.
finally found mention of it by Googling: “word.com wayback machine”
which lead to the index on wayback, duh I should have looked there first.
what word.com means to me — its not Merriam-Webster.
I suppose wayback machine is where I will feed when I crave Patrick Farley’s sadly defunct e-sheep as well.
oh in yoga today L_____ joked about me reciting passages from my book during class..
which reminds me… the idea sprung into my head ‘i should have been a culture blogger’ as a theme, or alternatively as a title for a work based on a selection of the 12 best calender months over my last decade of sfba history…
in other news blogging the lost world homage to SACDoyle is lost in space lost in my head. perhaps i need to find his old san francisco home, the one with the plaque outside the front that I used to see when walking the hills between divisadero and van ness.. is it there on california park or alamo square?
and the beginning to this novel is still in my head and not on paper.. while the middle makes strange departures to the story of a gay punk bike gang in a post apocalyptic wasteland… NaNoWriMo side effects.
